Formulator weighing a nutritional powder on a precision balance

Formulation
is the product.

Everything a brand experiences later — taste, texture, consistency, cost, timelines — was decided during development. That is where we put our best people, and why development and production share a building.

02What we are asked to solve

Bring the formula nobody else wanted.

These are the briefs that arrive most often — usually after a first attempt somewhere else. Select one to see how we approach it.

  1. How we approach it

We separate the off-notes first — bitterness, tingle, saltiness, chalk — and treat each with its own lever instead of piling on sweetener. Flavor direction is chosen for how it hides the actives, not just for how it sounds on a label.

    Levers we work
    • Masking
    • Acid balance
    • Sweetener system
    • Particle size
  2. How we approach it

Costs hide in ingredient grade, overage strategy, flavor load and packaging components. We re-source and re-balance around the parts the consumer never sees, then re-validate so the finished product still matches the original.

    Levers we work
    • Ingredient strategy
    • Overage review
    • Vendor alternates
    • Packaging spec
  3. How we approach it

Gummies punish shortcuts. We develop the active system and the base together — because a dose that works in a capsule can wreck set, clarity and taste in a gummy — and iterate texture alongside flavor.

    Levers we work
    • Base system
    • Active form
    • Flavor-led development
    • Finish
  4. How we approach it

Electrolytes taste like electrolytes. We tune the mineral forms and the acid-sweetener balance for a clean finish, then engineer the powder for fast dispersion in cold water and clean flow through stick-pack equipment.

    Levers we work
    • Mineral forms
    • Dispersion
    • Flow
    • Acid balance
  5. How we approach it

We benchmark the incumbent — appearance, taste, density, dissolution — document the process, and re-validate it in our facility. Any change is deliberate, agreed and recorded before the first commercial run.

    Levers we work
    • Benchmarking
    • Process documentation
    • Re-validation
    • Spec lock
  6. How we approach it

Qualified alternates and supplier relationships matter most when something goes away. We evaluate form, grade and sensory impact of the substitute and confirm it behaves in your formula before it goes anywhere near the schedule.

    Levers we work
    • Qualified alternates
    • Sensory check
    • Stability review
    • Documentation
  7. How we approach it

Removing a sweetener or a flow agent removes a job someone has to do. We rebuild the system with the ingredients you can accept and are honest about the trade-offs — early, while they are still cheap to change.

    Levers we work
    • Natural systems
    • Trade-off mapping
    • Iteration
    • Consumer test
03How a project runs

Six stages. Each one closes with a decision.

You always know what stage the project is in, what is being decided, and what we need from you next. Nothing moves to production on momentum.

  1. 01

    Brief

    What happens

We learn the consumer, the channel, the format, the price point and the constraints — including the ones you would rather not have.

    What you receive

A written technical brief with the trade-offs made explicit.

    Closes when

You confirm the brief is the product you want to exist.

  2. 02

    Feasibility

    What happens

Ingredient strategy, dose and format are checked against sourcing, cost and manufacturability before any bench time is spent.

    What you receive

Feasibility read, indicative cost direction and an ingredient plan.

    Closes when

Concept is confirmed, adjusted or retired — cheaply.

  3. 03

    Bench

    What happens

First formulations are built with the flavor system in the same round, not after. Solubility, texture and appearance are evaluated with the taste.

    What you receive

Bench prototypes and a first sensory direction.

    Closes when

A direction is chosen for sampling.

  4. 04

    Sample rounds

    What happens

Physical samples ship for your evaluation. Every round changes deliberate variables and says so, so feedback converges instead of circling.

    What you receive

Numbered samples with a change log for each revision.

    Closes when

You sign off on the sample that becomes the product.

  5. 05

    Pilot & lock

    What happens

Process parameters are defined and rehearsed so the approved sample can be reproduced at production scale — same appearance, taste and density.

    What you receive

Locked formula, specification and documentation package.

    Closes when

Spec is frozen; nothing changes without a recorded reason.

  6. 06

    Scale-up & handoff

    What happens

The first commercial batch is run in the same building by the team that developed it, with QA release and documentation assembled for market.

    What you receive

Released product with the paperwork that travels with it.

    Closes when

Product moves to packaging, warehouse and your channel.

04Flavor is formulation

Taste is engineered in the same round as the dose.

Flavor added after the formula is set can only hide so much. We develop the flavor system with the actives so masking, sweetness, acidity and finish are tuned to what is actually in the scoop.

Levers we work
  1. 01MaskingBitter blockers and complementary notes chosen for the specific active, not a generic masking agent dropped on top.
  2. 02Sweetener systemIntensity, onset and linger balanced across sweeteners so the finish is clean rather than lingering.
  3. 03Acid balanceAcidulants tuned for brightness and to cut mineral or amino bite without a sour edge.
  4. 04Mouthfeel & bodyThickness, foam and chalkiness managed so a high-load powder still drinks like a beverage.
  5. 05Aroma & top noteThe first impression on opening the tub or tearing the stick — developed as part of the profile.
  6. 06Aftertaste controlThe last impression decides repeat purchase. It gets its own evaluation in every round.

The same discipline applies to gummies — where flavor, texture and active load have to be solved together — and to capsules, where the goal is simply that nothing is noticed at all.

05Tech transfer

Move a product here without your customer noticing.

A transfer is a development project with an unusually clear brief: make exactly this, reliably, from our building. It runs in three moves.

Benchmark01

What the consumer already knows

Appearance, taste, texture, density, dissolution, fill — measured and recorded from the incumbent product so we have a target, not an opinion.

Document02

How it is actually made

Formula, ingredient grades, order of addition, process parameters and packaging spec captured in one place — often for the first time.

Re-validate03

Prove it in our building

Trial runs compared against the benchmark. Deliberate changes are agreed with you and recorded; accidental ones do not make it to release.

06Disciplines

Technical questions get technical answers.

We would rather tell you early that a concept needs to change than discover it during a commercial run.

  1. 01Concept developmentTurn a market idea into a technical brief: format, active strategy, sensory target, cost ceiling and the trade-offs between them.
  2. 02Custom formulationFormulas built on science-based ingredients at efficacious dosages, engineered around real production constraints rather than a spreadsheet.
  3. 03Flavor systemsFlavor, sweetener and masking development handled as part of formulation — the only way difficult actives ever taste acceptable.
  4. 04Ingredient strategyGrade, form and vendor decisions, plus qualified alternates, made with strong supplier relationships behind them.
  5. 05Iteration & samplesStructured sample rounds with clear evaluation criteria so revisions converge instead of looping indefinitely.
  6. 06Tech transferMove an existing product to Agile Nutra. We benchmark the incumbent, document the process and re-validate it in our facility.
  7. 07Regulatory-minded formulationDevelopment informed by labeling and market requirements from day one, with documentation assembled as we go.
  8. 08Commercialization & scale-upBench to production batch with locked parameters, so the first commercial run behaves like the sample that got approved.

07Working with us

Bring a concept. Or bring a problem.

Some partners arrive with a whiteboard sketch. Others arrive with a formula that tastes wrong, costs too much, or cannot be made reliably. Both are development projects — and both start the same way, with an honest technical read.
